Kick Start your Career with MTV! 
An exciting 6 week internship project!
 
At MTV we aim to uplift and empower local talent. In this spirit we would like to offer visually creative students an opportunity to participate in our local Art Beat initiative. Art Beat embodies the creative spirit, presenting a short, out of the box insight into what defines MTV as a brand.
 
This wonderful opportunity has been developed by VIMN Africa to open wider the doors to the television production industry in South Africa.   A structured, rigorous selection process will see VIMN Africa taking on board one deserving student to be part of the internship programme.
 
This will provide the student with an opportunity to work with well-known industry experts, international, sexy brand that is open to innovation, and gain insight into the inner mechanics of the production process at MTV.
 
To earn a place in the internship project, we are challenging young creatives and designers to come up with a short video promo or ident that illustrates and adheres to one of the MTV brand values (see below). 
 
Theme
The Art Beat needs to adhere to ONE of the following MTV brand values:
Ø  Smart and Fun is the New Rock N Roll: We keep it simple, yet provoke and stimulate
Ø  Super-Now and Fast Forward: We live in the super-now
Ø  Warm is the New Cool: We are emotionally expressive, not hard and aggressive
Ø  Celebrate Heroes Big and Small: We like talent, ambition and diversity
 
Requirements
Ø     1 short piece between 15-30 seconds. Work should adhere to 5 second increments, i.e. 15s, 20s, 25s, 30s.
Ø     Must incorporate the MTV logo as an integral part of the project.
Ø     Competition begins on 3rd July and closes on the 1 August 2013.
       Must be submitted in Quicktime.MOV format, PRORES 422(HQ) 1920X1080 OR XDCAM HD1080i50 (50Mb/s)
 
Incentives
Ø    The best 5 – 10 entries will go to air on MTV from 2nd September 2013.
Ø     A 6 week internship at VIMN Africa will be awarded to the best entry, with the dates negotiated to suit the winner. This is an opportunity to work with a well-known, international, sexy brand that is open to innovation, and gain insight into the inner mechanics of the production process at VIMN Africa on the “MTV” channel.
Ø    The winning entries will be given an on-screen credit for the first month of circulation on the “MTV” channel in South Africa.
Ø    Participants can download logos and selected music tracks from the Art Beat ftp, a link to which can be found on www.mtv.co.za. They will be required to sign an indemnity agreeing not to circulate the material and to use it only for entry into this competition.
Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges; There will be a 2 stage judging process, an internal process with selected MTV judges and following this, an external judging process with the selected judging panel. The judges decision is final.
A pop-up exhibition featuring the winning entries will run from the 30th August until 1st September or such other period to be determined by VIMN Africa.
 
Entry requirements
Ø    The competition is open to students at tertiary educational institutions OR individuals with less than 2 years of professional experience.
Ø    Entrants must be 25 years of age or younger at the close of the competition on the 1st August 2013 and may not be younger than 18 years of age.
Ø    Open to South African citizens or residents of South Africa only. The ability for the winner to obtain a work permit for the internship is a criteria for the competition and may disqualify a submission.
 
Selection criteria
All applicants will be subject to a selection criteria based on submissions of the above
The closing date for submissions is 1 August 2013.
 
Delivery of work must be on CD or flashdrive to 1 Saxon Road, Hyde Park between 9:00am - 5:30pm (weekdays only), alternatively send an email with your artwork to basedigital@vimn.com or via a designated ftp.
